I used to be in the camp that the Technics arm was poor but I've revised my opinion of it after some experimentation. I had an SME V and tried it on both my GR and Mk2, although there was some improvement in imaging and clarity it wasn't the leap I was expecting, at least on the GR. With the Mk2 there was a noticeable difference but I couldn't help feeling the SME's matter of fact sound didn't compliment a matter of fact sounding turntable. I had the GR arm rewired which I think narrowed the gap even further to the point I think it you'd be hard pressed to say the additional outlay for the SME was justified. I now think the stock arm is a decent performer once you address the internal wiring.

En general, encuentro la serie VM demasiado aguda y muy mal manejo de las frecuencias bajas. Pero es que en la ATVM95ML ni encuentro los bajos. Me suenan como si los estuviera escuchando en una minicadena cutre

Las audio tecnica, para mi gusto, se dejan por el camino los graves. Las oigo demasiado agudas. En la B encuentro el bajo, pero me sigue faltando potencia y profundidad. Pero mis oidos son de madera y tienen 56 años

I really love the Denon-110! Compared to the more expensive cartiges it's a no-brainer. Either you just listen to the music or you listen to the gear. DL-110 is a best buy if you just want to enjoy. I also have a shibata-upgraded Benz Micro Gold - but why? Only necause I bought it and upgraded it.

I love these cartridges. I use primarily use audio-technica cartridges. VM95EN /ML/SH because they have japan made bodies, and if you look closely, the headshell in the video is wired using the audio-technica OCC high-quality headshell leads which are the best I've ever used , they used to be around £20 for a 4 , now they are about £30 as of 2024. I've found the AT VM530EN to be exceptional, but top of the pile, imo is the VM740ML. i don't spend silly money on cartridges.

Hi Francisco I mounted the Kab fluid damper on my GR without success, I kept it for about a month, the fluid about halfway up the tank giving it time to adapt, but I removed it because it suppressed the higher frequencies darkening the sound, without the Kab I find the sound fresher and more dynamic, maybe I did something wrong?

Looking forward to the A/B test. I know "better" is probably subjective though, and wouldn't be surprised if there's differing opinion with the views of listeners. I have a couple of 1200mk2's, one is modded (not heavily) and the other completely standard. I've done a few A/B recordings myself and quite a lot of people prefer the standard one.

@HiFisquarepants I'm interested in the upcoming Blind Listening Test. 👍 But I also have a few questions: 1. What Phono Preamp are you using/will you use for the A/B test? 2. How will you capture/record the Audio from the Phono Preamp? Will you be using a USB Audio Recording Interface such as RME, Audient, Universal Audio Apollo, Focusrite Scarlett, MOTU, etc? I would highly recommend using a Tascam DA-3000 Mastering Grade Recorder. You can capture direct from the phono preamp outputs to DSD or in PCM up to 24b/192k. 3. Will you upload the Raw Lossless Files to a Cloud Storage/File Server such as "Google Drive" and provide a Download Link so that your viewers/listeners can compare the Lossless files without streaming them over RUclips's Lossy compression codec, and use a PC music playback software such as Foobar2000 + their A/B/X COMPARATOR plugin for true randomized Double-Blind A/B/X test results? I have owned four of the 'original' TTs. A Mk2, A Mk5, and two Mk5g. The one of choice is the Mk5g because it looks fabulous. The great thing about these units is that they have great sound because of the direct drive. Then they are super upgradable. Interestingly the cheaper upgrades are the best. The single best upgrade is the feet. There are two weaknesses of the Technics. One is the feet. For a hundred bucks or so you can get aftermarket feet. I use Isonoe feet that are effectively mini trampolines. Another great option are maglev feet, obtainable from Ali Express for peanuts. The other weakness is the platter. It rings like a gong. The reason for this is that the rubber underlay is imperfectly applied. Rubber is not the best damping material. It is ok but not as good as sorbothane for example. Even worse is that the rubber has not been glued to the underside of the platter incorrectly. So the next best upgrade is the mat. The Oyaide mat is the best. It is made from Butyl. A cheaper option is the Achromat, that you have shown. But best of all is to strip out the rubber underlay (set aside an entire weekend for this job!) and replace it with an epoxy such as g-flex. Now the platter is dead as a doornail. I have used aftermarket power supplies. Expensive but marginal improvement. Tonearms: I put in a top of the line Origin Live tonearm. That was a waste of time and money. I also put in a Jelco tonearm. Small improvement. Overall I would say to keep the original tonearm. It can be damped with a little rubber or sorbothane o-ring. Another great improvement (after feet and platter) is to open up the unit. Then put dynamat on all exposed surfaces. You now have a vibration free turntable. I can still go on: The bearing should be polished. I use autosol. Also there are aftermarket thrustpads. I have used thrustpads made from delrin and PEEK (the hardest form of teflon). Another improvement that is easy is to set your unit on mass. The best option would be to use a block of hardwood such as ebony. I place mine on a slab of granite. Small tweaks are to use a headshell of hardwood (such as the Yamamoto Sound) and a puck made from the same material. I even went so far as to have a custom made ebony armboard.

Wow cool review! I have the 1210GR and went up with my yamamoto headshell with the HS-6S. amazing headshell! Match with nagaoka mp200, funk firm apm mat and mnpctech feet. The 1200GR is amazing for the common people like me who don't have that kind of money ❤ cheers🎉

hola de nuevo siento ser insistente pero veoq ue tambien tienes la 1042 yo tambien pero con aguja rota s9lo tendria que comprar la aguja pero recuerdo que tenioa un sonido algo artificial,entre esta la denon dl110 o 103r y la vm95sh con cual te quedas en cuanto a sonido calido y natural?

hola me gustaria saber entre la ortofon 2m bronze y la audio technica vm750sh con cual te quedas? cual suena con mas graves y calida y con mas separacion de canales? es decir el efecto 3d ? y hay mucha diferencia de la bronze a la black? actualmente tengo una vm95ml y me gustaria un upgrade con alguna de estas dos capsulas

Ho ascoltato con una cuffia ad occhi chiusi e guardavo solo quando percepivo un cambio nel suono per non essere influenzato: con il Rega il dettaglio armonico e la dinamica - soprattutto in gamma alta - si comprimono in modo decisamente percepibile (più evidente quando si passa dal Technics al Rega che viceversa). Il Technics suono molto più nitido e dinamico in generale: ben felice di averlo.

I feel and hear instruments much better. I almost bought the blue ortofon…anyone have opinions on that in comparison to brown shibata?
